Nadia Dafri is not easy to find, but difficult to forget.
When I first saw her work on show in Paris, during the fair Maison+Objet 2012 I was smitten, what-is-it-I-love-it at first sight! But because of the note next to her space ‘please no photography’ (and me being totally impressed with her!) I lost her, until recently, and I still cannot believe she is not in every magazine!
She describes her work as non-trendy and I can understand why: a trend is a no-brainer, easy to follow, and if truth is told… quite average. And despite the mishmash of patterns and colors -very 2013!- you can see there’s more to the necklaces, braces and cuffs. They look the kind of jewelry for a costume or a (battle)dress: an addition extraordinaire. An attire that reads dignity and raises respect, maybe wards off the negative: an empowering work of art, made by hand. And with hand made stuff comes soul, and that will always look good.
