Tomorrow Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby will open this year’s Festival de Cannes. An epic film adapted from the famous novel by American author Francis Scott Fitzgerald in an exciting remake, with Leonardo di Caprio in the role of the romantic and tragic figure of Jay Gatsby. Already a hit, it ignited a (roaring) Twenties trend in clothing and home & living alike, featured in glossies around the world. I can’t wait to go see it!

Leonardo di Caprio is Gatsby
Baz Luhrmann is a famous and fabulous director to most (Romeo+Juliet, Strictly Ballroom, Moulin Rouge), but to me he is the magnificent producer of one of the most poignant advices on life, exposed in the song (Everybody’s free to use) Sunscreen. I was introduced to it when living in London, by my copywriter at the time, Helen. I had my difficulties with Helen, but for giving this song to me I am profoundly thankful.
The smashing lyrics are based on an essay by Mary Schmich of the Chicago Tribune, published on June 1, 1997. The song was engineered in 1999 by Luhrmann (a spoken-word track set over a mellow backing track), the lyrics narrated by the Australian voice actor Lee Perry. A timeless masterpiece of inspiring poetry, that will not leave you untouched.
I never saw a video untill now, there are many on youtube, this is the most viewed. Embedded, so you can get to it straight away, but you can, ofcourse, close your eyes and look at your own images 😉
