Ticket to the Tropen Museum
My neighborhood museum is the Tropen Museum and it is one of Europe’s leading ethnographic museums, renowned for its collection. The permanent and temporary exhibitions display (art) objects, photographs, music and film from non-western cultures.
The Body Art exposition
A recent show was about Body Art. An amazing exhibit of a thousand and one ways people decorate and alter their bodies to reflect their insides, showing their souls, if you will. {Unfortunately not on show anymore, but on the site of the museum you can still read up on it and stare at the images}
The Sixties – A Worldwide Happening is on show now, “(…) an exhibition which makes the 1960s feel amazingly close and recognizable because today’s world builds on the icons of yesterday.” Fashion designer Thea Porter being a phenomenon of the era.
Secret Love is another exhibition, “(…) a contemporary art exhibition about the taboo surrounding lesbian, homosexual, bisexual and transgender (LGBTs) identities in China. How do positive changes towards sexual diversity in China affect LGBTs?”
An interesting time to be found, just around the corner.
