With my birthday coming up, I’m holding on to Maggie Smith, the English actress. She makes being older look like it’s doable, fun even, as if it could be the better period actually. That’s how good an actress she is, I guess, but I simply adore her, and am still discovering her in a Benjamin Button way: I fell for her when she was an older lady already (the role of Lady Violet in Downton Abbey is just one example of how she can do majestic wit and glances) and am now curious about her early work. Still so much to discover!
Dame Margaret Natalie Smith in full, has had an extensive, varied career in stage, film and television spanning over sixty years. She appeared in more than 50 films! Needless to say she’s in a quite exceptional position for a female actor. Usually they get cut off much younger, but not Smith, she seems to get better and better, peaking at – who knows what age?! Brilliant 😀
