Hippie sun beam | View from my window last night
The picture above was taken from my window on the topfloor, when the sun was setting, behind the zoo, facing west Amsterdam, across the canal. The end of an eventful day, after an eventful week.
This day my nephew woke up from a coma.
From the moment the wheels of the motorbike slipped until his question “What is the matter?” upon facing his mother by his bedside, in those 5 days, a life has past by. Seeing someone you love, loved by so many, and young, making al the monitor screens dance like disco graphs, fighting for his life but unconscious, sends your mind racing.
The fact that he was operated on two broken legs, and didn’t wake up after surgery. And the report on the silliness of the accident, making it look like some Very Bad Luck was going on. What had happened in the OR and where was he now?
This week I’ve been thinking about luck, bad luck, and injustice. Of youth and expectations, bravoure and gossip. Life, death and willpower. Choices.

read the signs – this came in just after my sister broke the news of the awakening
