Found Photography | An Illusion To Live In

An Illusion To Live In

Home | An illusion to live in | Beautiful little stars where the sun peeps in. SOWETO_KLIPTOWN TOWNSHP | Hollandse Hoogte.nl

After I stumbled upon the title – a clipping from an article in the VPRO tv-guide on the classic Casablanca, Rick’s Cafe Americain in particular – this series of photographs in my archive caught my eye.

We are looking into homes in South Africa, in Soweto, the Klipton Township. Where people are living in selfmade houses the size of a shed in between many neighbors.

The shelters show some similarity, as in, containing a rudiment of a home, the personal basics, all a little different but the same. Reflecting personality in the details.

They’re from photography agency Hollandse Hoogte, but checking for credits I can’t retrace the photographer… the picture aren’t on the website anymore… I must have kept this for ages!
